WBRC’s Catherine Patterson leaving Fox 6 to spend more time with family

Catherine Patterson, an anchor and reporter with WBRC Fox 6 in Birmingham, has announced that she’s leaving the TV station to spend more time with her family. Patterson, who started working at WBRC in 2018, said her last day on the air will be Thursday, Aug. 17.

“I have some bittersweet news to share with you,” Patterson said Monday in a statement on Facebook. “After five and a half wonderful years at WBRC Fox 6, I have decided to step away from the anchor desk to spend more time with my family.

“As many of you know, my husband and I welcomed our beautiful daughter Lucy earlier this year. And as I’m sure many of you understand — every minute with our little ones is so precious … and it goes by too fast!

“I am beyond grateful for the incredible time I’ve spent here at WBRC. Not only did I have the opportunity to work alongside some of the most talented, knowledgeable, and kind people, but I also got to share life-changing stories and meet inspiring people from across the state. I cannot express just how much I sincerely appreciate all of you who have followed my journey … from my first days in south Georgia at WALB, to my last days here at WBRC. We’ve been through a pandemic together … way too many tornadoes … stories of heartbreak and stories of celebration. Your support, loyalty, and trust over the years are things I will never take for granted and will always cherish. I know I’m so fortunate to have Facebook followers like you who have shared kind comments, funny stories, interesting photos and encouraging words with me. And for that, I am truly thankful.

“My last day here at WBRC will be Thursday, August 17th. Until then, I’ll soak up every minute left with my Fox 6 family, and I hope you’ll catch Steve, Jonathan and me on the 9 and 10.”

Patterson, a multimedia journalist, also served as the editor of WBRC’s “Daily 6″ newsletter, according to her profile on the station’s website.

The Atlanta native previously worked for three years as an anchor and reporter at WALB News 10, a Fox station in Albany, Ga. Patterson graduated in 2014 from the University of Georgia with a degree in journalism.
